Richard Thaler is based at the University of Chicago where he specialises in behavioural economics and the psychology of decision-making. [1] Thaler is the co-author with Cass Sunstein of Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness. The book applies theoretical components from behavioural economics to social problems and has been influential in the UK, with the government since 2010 keen to explore methods that "supports the Coalition Government’s commitment to reducing regulatory burdens on business and society, and achieving its goals as cheaply and effectively as possible" [2] Within the Cabinet Office the government has established the Behavioural Insights Team that explores ways to promote preferred behaviour by using behavioural economics and behavioural science in policy making.[3] Richard Thaler is an unpaid advisor to this group.
