He was a leading cheerleader for the Iraq war, opening up the magazine's pages to pro-war neoconseratives. A liberal Zionist himself, he wrote a highly critical article about the American Jewish establishment in the New York Review of Books in 2010 arguing that its increasing shift to the right for both Jews and Israel.[1]
