The Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR) was a former regiment of the British Army in existence from 1969 to 1992.
The UDR was formed as a result of the 1969 Hunt Report, which recommended the disbandment of the Ulster Special Constabulary. It became operational on 1 April 1970.[1]
The UDR merged with the Royal Irish Rangers on 1 July 1992 to form the Royal Irish Regiment.[2]
