Controversy
In July 2002 Czech police foiled an attempt to murder a journalist at one of the country's leading dailies. Four people, including a former Foreign Ministry official, were arrested in connection with the investigation.[2]
Police managed to avert an assassination attempt against Mlada Fronta Dnes reporter Sabina Slonkova. One of the four people arrested in connection with the case was Karel Srba, a former senior aide to former Czech Foreign Minister Jan Kavan, who had also been employed by the Czech secret service.[3]
At the time of this scandal Andor Sandor was dismissed from his post as head of the Czech secret service. Defense Minister Jaroslav Tvrdik said that the dismissal was not connected to the alleged assassination plot or to Srba.[4]
