Josef Jarab is a director at the Prague Security Studies Institute, a professor of English and American Literature and director of the Center for Comparative Cultural Studies at Palacky University, Olomouc. He helped found the Czech Learned Society, and became the first chairman of the Czech Fulbright Committee and the Czech and Slovak Association for American Studies; he served as president of the European Association for American Studies from 2000 to 2004. As an independent politician he held a seat in the Senate of the Czech Parliament where he chaired the Committeee on International Affairs, Defense and Security[1].
