Jewish lending library formerly at Glasgow Jewish Community Centre
Chaim Bermant Library was a specialised Jewish lending library located at 222 Fenwick Road, Giffnock, Glasgow, within the premises known as the Glasgow Jewish Community Centre and headquarters of the Scottish Zionist movement.[1] Named after the Anglo-Jewish novelist and journalist Chaim Bermant (1929–1998), who immigrated to Glasgow as a child, attended local schools and Glasgow University, and later became a prominent author in London, the library housed a collection of Jewish-interest books in English, Hebrew and Yiddish.[2]
The library appears to have been created by renaming or rebranding the existing Jewish Resource Centre at the same address during the late 1990s.[3] It was administered by Mrs D Zolkwer during much of its documented existence and was listed under the auspices of SCOJEC (Scottish Council of Jewish Communities) by 2004.[4][5][6] The facility provided access to Jewish literature, religious texts, history and fiction, serving the Glasgow Jewish community during a period when the Fenwick Road building functioned as a multi-purpose Jewish communal hub.[1]
The Chaim Bermant Library was located for a time at the headquarters of the Scottish Zionist movement at 222 Fenwick Road, Giffnock, Glasgow, G46 6UE in what was called the Glasgow Jewish Community Centre.[7] Chaim Bermant was a Jewish immigrant to Glasgow when he was a child. After finishing primary school and attending secondary school and Glasgow University Bermant travelled South and became a well known author and writer. The library appears to have been created by renaming the Jewish Resource Centre at the same address. It was listed as follows.

- 2010 - 222 Fenwick Road.[11]
By the 2010s the library's independent identity appears to have diminished, with the collection either dispersed, integrated into other local Jewish institutions, or closed following changes in use of the 222 Fenwick Road premises.[12] No evidence indicates continuity under the Chaim Bermant name after the mid-2010s, and the site later became associated with other organisations.
