Labour MP for Weaver Vale, elected June 2017.
Views on fracking
This article is part of the Spinwatch Fracking Portal and project |
In response to INEOS interim injunction issued by High Court in August 2017 Amesbury issued the following statement:
- “I’m disappointed but not surprised that Ineos have chosen to spend their time in the high courts, rather than in the local communities that will be affected by fracking. Had they done so, then they would have heard a loud and clear message that their plans are not welcome here.”
- Ineos may have secured the support of a court today, but they certainly do not have the support of the people of Weaver Vale, who will continue to be united in their opposition to shale gas exploration in our area.”
- If Ineos think that this judgement has put an end to protests and opposition, they are much mistaken. We will continue to fight any attempts to introduce fracking in Weaver Vale for as long as any threat remains.” [1]
In response to IGAS plans:
- 'Labour pledged to ban fracking in our manifesto at this year’s general election. The majority of Cheshire is already licensed for exploration and production by IGas and INEOS, and in Runcorn IGas are currently building up stocks of fracking equipment.
- We are on the front line – my particular concern is that Weaver Vale could be next and the best way to get rid of fracking for good is to elect a Labour government.' [2]
