United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) was founded in 1987 to prepare Special Operations Forces (SOF) to carry out assigned missions and, if directed by the president or secretary of defense (SECDEF), to plan for and conduct special operations.[1]
USSOCOM has its own educational component, the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU).[2]
