Background
Lancaster served in the army before entering into a career in politics, and was awarded his second long service medal, marking 22 years service by UK prime minister David Cameron in 2012. He continues to serve as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Engineers. [4]
In 2001 Lancaster chose to contest the Nuneaton general election in 2001 but was unsuccessful. In 2005 however he was elected member for North East Milton Keynes. That same year he was also chosen to serve as a whip and shadow minister for international development. [1]
Following his re-election in the 2010 General Election, Lancaster was appointed as the parliamentary private secretary to the secretary of state for the Department for International Development. [4]
Visit to the United Arab Emirates
Lancaster was part of a 10-person parliamentary delegation to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in April 2012.
The trip lasted five days and gave British parliamentarians the opportunity to meet with senior government officials and private companies in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The UAE government paid £3,500 toward Lancaster's travel and accommodation. [5]
