The Nike Swoosh

The "Swoosh" branding, as seen above, has been Nike's signiture device since 1971. In June 1971, Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student at Portland State University presented a number of design options to Phil Knight and other Blue Ribbon Sports executives - as the brand was then known as - and they ultimatly selected the mark now known globally as the Swoosh.

In June 1972, the first running shoes bearing the Swoosh were introduced at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

Today, the Swoosh has helped Nike become one of the most globally recognisable brands in the world along the likes of Playstation and Coca Cola.
