Michael Jopling became a Conservative Party member of the House of Lords in June 1997 and was given the title Lord Jopling. [1]
Political career
Jopling was an MP for over 30 years, serving for his constituency of Westmorland from 1964-83 and then Westmorland & Lonsdale from 1983-97.
Alongside this he worked at the HM Treasury in the early seventies, firstly as their assistant whip and then as Lord commissioner. Following on from this, Jopling worked as shadow minister for agriculture, fisheries and food before elevating to minister of state. [1]
