Political career
Jopling was an MP for over thirty years, serving for his constituency of Westmorland from 1964-83 and then Westmorland & Lonsdale from 1983-97. Alongside this he worked at the HM Treasury in the early seventies, firstly as their assistant whip and then as Lord commissioner.
