Daniel Poulter was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health in September 2012. He is also the Conservative MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich.[1]
Background
Poulter studied law at Bristol University before completing a degree in medicine from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine. Before entering politics, Dan worked as an NHS hospital doctor where he specialised primarily in obstetrics, gynaecology and women’s health. He continues to practice medicine as an NHS hospital doctor on a part-time basis. [1]
Poulter was also a member of the Health Select Committee, chair of the parliamentary group on maternity, and an officer of the parliamentary group to improve global health. He has helped to set up medical and lifestyle advice clinics for the homeless and people with drug and alcohol misuse problems. He was also previously deputy leader of Reigate and Banstead Council.
