Background
The Urenco Group is a nuclear fuel company operating several uranium enrichment plants in Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It supplies nuclear power stations in about 15 countries, and in 2011 had a 29 per share of the global market for enrichment services. Urenco uses centrifuge enrichment technology.[1][2]
Urenco's main rivals include Russia's Tenex, America's USEC and France's Areva, though China has around 6 per cent of the market and is growing fast. [3]
For sale
In August 2013 Urenco was put up for sale for £9bn by its three one-third shareholders – the British and Dutch governments and a private combo representing Germany, namely the RWE and E.ON utility companies. [3]
Potential buyers of Urenco according to The Telegraph include Canadian uranium processor Cameco, Areva, infrastructure funds and private equity.[3]

People
Helmut Engelbrecht, chief executive joined Urenco in 2003, having previously been a customer as E.ON's fuel supply boss. Regarding the entrenched negotiations between the UK and EDF over building a new nuclear power station in Somerset in the UK, Engelbrecht is certain it "will come to a conclusion. It's essential infrastructure to keep the UK electricity supply going. You cannot have relied for 25pc of your generation on nuclear for 60 years and all of a sudden expect to be able to forgo that". [3]
