She said the Arab and Islamic Affairs Media Unit was established after the 11 September 2001 events as part of the initiatives taken to confront the changing world events. This means it started at the time when Robin Cook, who died last Saturday [6 August], was the foreign secretary. She added that the British government's policies were misunderstood after 9/11 and the unit's establishment was the answer to the misunderstanding and meant to ensure the Arab and Islamic media organs became aware of all the points of view. According to Williams, the unit aims to bolster the contacts between the Arab and Islamic media organs and the British government.
