Yad Vochessed Association Limited (company 05219183; charity 1112797) is an Orthodox Jewish grant-making charitable company based in Stamford Hill, London. It was incorporated on 1 September 2004 and registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 23 January 2006.[1] The register activity line is “to reduce poverty suffered by the Jewish community in the UK and overseas.” Objects in the memorandum: to advance religion in accordance with the Orthodox Jewish faith; the relief of needy persons; and other purposes charitable in English law. Area of benefit is not defined; “in practice worldwide.”[2]
It makes grants to individuals and organisations, classified as religious activities helping other charities. Operations on the register: throughout England and Wales. Not recognised issues aside, reporting on the live register is shown as up to date.[1]
The Commission published an inquiry report on 25 April 2014 after the charity failed to file accounts with the Commission (while filing at Companies House). It was one of the first ten charities entered in the May 2025 statutory class inquiry into cashed cheques.[3][4]

Alleged or apparent misdeed
2013–14 double-defaulter inquiry
On 20 September 2013 the Commission opened a statutory class inquiry into charities that had failed to file annual documents for two or more years in five and met income criteria. Yad Vochessed was included. Missing returns for years ending 30 September 2011 and 2012 were filed on 3 September 2013 and 4 December 2013. The published report (25 April 2014) found mismanagement and misconduct and a breach of legal duties: the company had filed accounts at Companies House but not with the Commission. Two sets of accounts brought more than £3.2 million of income onto the register. The charity left that inquiry once filings were complete. The GOV.UK publication was withdrawn on 13 March 2019 as older than two years; the PDF remains available.[3][13]
2025 cashed-cheques class inquiry
On 14 May 2025 the Commission opened a new statutory class inquiry after an unannounced HMRC visit to a company in Hackney found that 105 charities had cashed cheques there worth £22 million between December 2021 and March 2023. Yad Vochessed Association Limited was one of the first ten charities entered. The Commission issued an immediate order temporarily stopping charities under inquiry from issuing cheques without prior consent. The inquiry examines transfer of funds, trustee oversight of cash, and whether cash was used for charitable purposes.[4] A class inquiry is not a finding of guilt. As of 9 September 2026 four other charities in later tranches had been closed out of the inquiry; this charity was not among them. The live register still shows a regulatory alert that an inquiry is open.[14]
Relations to Jewish communal organisations, Israel lobby groups, and Israel and the occupied territories
Accounts name grants to UK Orthodox institutions (Beis Aharon Trust, Viznitz London, Yeshiva Gedola D'London, London Gemach) and to institutions labelled Jerusalem, Bnei Brak / Bene Berak, Beit Shemesh / Beth Shemesh, Elad, Beitar, Givat Zeev, Antwerp, Satmar, Belz and Shotz. Beitar Illit and Givat Ze’ev are Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank; Elad, Beit Shemesh and Bnei Brak are cities in Israel. Lines such as Beitar Mikva Building Project, Mosdos Belz Machnovke Beitar, Mosdos Dzikov Givat Zeev, Yeshiva Ketana Elad and Talmud Torah Bene Aharon Jerusalem are therefore grants described, in the charity’s own accounts, as going to bodies in Israel or the occupied territories. No published inquiry statement retrieved for this profile records a grant to the Israeli government or to a named UK Israel-lobby organisation such as BICOM or Labour Friends of Israel.
Shared officers link the company to Beis Aharon Charitable Trust Limited and, through Dov Krautwirt, to One Heart - Lev Echod, both in the same 2025 inquiry tranche. Heichalei Hakodesh appears both as a large grant recipient here and as another trusteeship of Shaul Krautwirt at Friends of Beis Soroh Schneirer.
