Ian Blackford is the Scottish National Party MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber, having won the seat in the May 2015 general election. [1] Blackford gained 48 per cent of the vote and a majority of 5,124. [2]
Blackford defeated former Liberal Democrats leader Charles Kennedy, who had held the seat since 1983. [3] He was only selected to stand for the SNP in this constituency in January 2015, but has previous political experience as national treasurer for the SNP and as a member of the shadow cabinet with responsibility for social security and pensions. [4]
Blackford was appointed as Shadow SNP Spokesperson for Pensions in May of 2015.[5]
