Sam Gyimah has been the Conservative Party MP for East Surrey since 2010. He was appointed a government whip as Lord Commissioner (HM Treasury) in 2013.[1]
He was appointed a parliamentary under secretary of state at the Department for Education in July 2014.[2]
In the 2015 general election, Gyminah retained his seat with a majority of 22,658, [3] and was reappointed as childcare minister. [4]

In an interview on the Daily Politics in December 2015, Gyimah expressed support for shale gas, calling fracking a 'bridge to a low carbon future' and 'great for the economy'. [5]
Gyimah's constituency includes one oil and gas licence blocks, awarded to IGas by the Oil and Gas Authority under the 14th licensing round in 2015. The licence is a conventional type: there are plans to conduct 2D seismic surveying, but no applications or plans for shale wells are currently underway. [6]
