According to the Guardian, British ministers including the then Foreign Secretary William Hague 'lobbied strongly' on behalf of Tullow Oil after it became involved in a tax dispute in Uganda. A spokesperson for Hague said, 'it is part of the government’s duty to support British business and British citizens abroad. This case is no different from any other case in which a British company seeks assistance through a UK embassy.'[2]
