Hamira Khan 'was educated at Bannerman High School, Baillieston and subsequently attended the University of the West of Scotland, where she completed a BA in Marketing.' She 'started her working life as a marketing junior with British Airways', and, she notes 'at the age of 24 she created a leading consultancy company, specialising in culturally sensitive campaigns with offices in Glasgow's City Centre. She has acted as a mentor for many aspiring entrepreneurs and also given assistance to local government bodies on how to develop their enterprise culture within the Scottish black and ethnic minority communities. This earned her a nomination for Young Female of the Year in 2004, as well as being short listed for the Women into Enterprise award by Glasgow City Council.'[5]
In late 2005, Khan 'moved to the Middle East when Dubai became the logical place to do business, and was a natural decision to launch her consultancy services'. In 2009 she noted that she had 'recently returned to Glasgow and has been working with local communities on a range of issues, including social cohesion and inspiring, motivating and helping young people to achieve personal success.'[6]
Khan says she supports Operation Black Vote. She lives in the West End of Glasgow, with her husband Ali.[7]
Khan has run a small PR agency called Grapevine since 2002 which is located in the United Arab Emirates (according to Khan's LinkedIn page).[8]
