Liam Aylward (born 27 September 1952, Kilkenny) is an Irish MEP from Fianna Fáil Party.
He has been named on the French honours list for the year 2008 for his achievements "on the broader European political stage." This is the highest honour that the French Government can give to a non-French national.[1]

Record and Controversies

Record of Parliamentary Votes
- Liam Aylward voted in favour of the parliamentary report "on the development of the framework for the activities of interest representatives (lobbyists) in the European institutions," on 02 April 2008.[3]
- He abstained from voting on the Data Retention Directive[4] (the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the retention of data processed in connection with the provision of public electronic communication services and amending Directive 2002/58/EC), passed in November 2005.[5]
Legislation on Pesticides
Liam Aylward was highly concerned about the legislation opposing the use of pesticides for health and environmental reasons. He explained that the possible damage to the large and smaller scale farmers "at such an economically sensitive time" makes it "the most prudent approach to adopt," with the excuse of "protecting local livelihoods." Iverk Produce Ltd (a company dealing in wholesale fruit, vegetables and potatoes) is an important employer in Aylward's constituency.[6][7]
