Councillor Dicicco gave the following response:  'I have read the leaflet being circulated to residents of Meriden concerning the proposed biomass plant, with a mix of anger and incredulity. The scurrilous claims being made by UKIP have no basis in fact and are purely designed to scare local people. The proposed biomass plant will have to meet very stringent emissions regulations set by the Environment Agency – if it didn’t it would be shut down.' <ref>Lauren Clarke, [http://solihullobserver.co.uk/news/solihull-councillor-slams-ukips-meriden-toxic-gas-claims/ 'Solihull councillor slams UKIPs Meriden toxic gas claims', 24 March 2016], ''Solihull Observer'', accessed 25 May 2016</ref>

Leslie Kaye is a prominent campaigner for UKIP, and recently contested the Solihull local elections in Meriden Ward for the party, in the local elections of May 2016. [1]

Councillor slams UKIP's toxic gas claims

Tony Dicicco, councillor for Meriden, Solihull and cabinet member for the environment, housing and regeneration, has condemned a 'scurrilous' leaflet circulated by UKIP claiming that a proposed biomass plant in Meriden Quarry will pump toxic gas into the air. The leaflet was put together by UKIP campaigner Leslie Kaye, and claims the woodchips the plant would burn would contain lead-based paints and harmful chemicals, and says this could pump 'cyanide and other toxic gasses' into the air.

Kaye writes in the leaflet: 'Most directly impacted by pollution will be the excellent £750,000 village sports facility where healthy exercise will become a thing of the past. Further along the path of the filth will be the school and playground where young lungs will soak up the harmful emissions.'

Councillor Dicicco gave the following response: 'I have read the leaflet being circulated to residents of Meriden concerning the proposed biomass plant, with a mix of anger and incredulity. The scurrilous claims being made by UKIP have no basis in fact and are purely designed to scare local people. The proposed biomass plant will have to meet very stringent emissions regulations set by the Environment Agency – if it didn’t it would be shut down.' [2]
