Daniel Poulter

Daniel Poulter has been the Conservative Party MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich since 2010. He was parliamentary under secretary of state at the Department of Health from September 2012 until May 2015. [1]

In the 2015 general election, Poulter was re-elected with a majority of 20,144. [2]

In October 2016, Poulter was granted approval by ACOBA to assume a role as visiting professor at King’s College London, within the faculty of social science and public policy. [3]

Background

Poulter studied law at Bristol University before completing a degree in medicine from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine. Before entering politics, he worked as an NHS hospital doctor where he specialised primarily in obstetrics, gynaecology and women’s health. He continues to practice medicine as an NHS hospital doctor on a part-time basis. [1]

Poulter was also a member of the Health Select Committee, chair of the parliamentary group on maternity, and an officer of the parliamentary group to improve global health. He has helped to set up medical and lifestyle advice clinics for the homeless and people with drug and alcohol misuse problems. He was also previously deputy leader of Reigate and Banstead Council. [1]
