Background

ARM Holdings plc was founded in 1990[1] and is a British multinational semiconductor and software design company with its head office in Cambridge, England. Its largest business is in processors, although it also designs software development tools under the RealView and Keil brands, systems and platforms, system-on-a-chip infrastructure and software. It is considered to be market dominant in the field of processors for mobile phones (smartphones or otherwise) and tablets and is arguably the best-known of the 'Silicon Fen' companies.[2]

People

Executive team

Simon Segars joined the Board in January 2005 and was appointed CEO in July 2013. He was previously President. Earlier senior roles included EVP, Engineering; EVP, Worldwide Sales; EVP, Business Development; and EVP and General Manager of the Processor and Physical IP Divisions. He joined ARM in early 1991 and worked on many of the early ARM CPU products. He led the development of the ARM7 and ARM9 Thumb® families. He holds a number of patents in the field of embedded CPU architectures.
Tim Score joined ARM as Chief Financial Officer and director in March 2002. Before joining ARM, he was Finance Director of Rebus Group Limited. He was previously Group Finance Director of William Baird plc, Group Controller at LucasVarity plc and Group Financial Controller at BTR plc.
Patricia Alsop joined ARM in 2003 as Company Secretary. Prior to this, she was Company Secretary and General Counsel at William Baird plc and General Counsel at Debenhams plc. She previously worked as a solicitor in private practice. She is responsible for Corporate Governance and Compliance and is closely involved in ARM’s M&A activity.
Graham Budd was appointed Chief Operating Officer in July 2008. Prior to this he was EVP and General Manager of the Processor Division from July 2005. He joined ARM in 1992 as a VLSI design engineer and led the development of several of ARM's early system-on-chip designs. Since then he has held a number of engineering, marketing and operations leadership roles. He is a chartered engineer.

John Cornish was appointed VP and General Manager, System Design Division in 2008. He joined ARM in 1998 as Director of European Marketing. From 2002 until 2007 he led the Processor Division’s marketing team, including the definition and launch of the Cortex family of cores. Prior to joining ARM he was with Texas Instruments in Dallas and held a variety of chip design and marketing roles. He holds five U.S patents for the design of PC chipsets.
Phil David joined ARM in 1994 and was appointed as General Counsel in 2003. He has over fifteen years’ experience of the law in the field of high technology. He has a BSc in Biochemistry.

Ian Drew was appointed as Chief Marketing Officer and EVP Business Development in July 2012, having previously been EVP – Strategy since August 2011. He joined ARM in July 2005 as VP Segment Marketing. Prior to this, he worked at Intel Corporation for 14 years in various senior management roles around the world including Asia, Europe and the US, latterly as GM of the Russia/CIS office based in Moscow.
Tom Lantzsch joined ARM in December 2006 as VP Marketing for the Physical IP Division. In 2009 he became EVP of Corporate Development and joined the Executive Committee in 2010. He has been a senior business leader for over 25 years in both Fortune 500 companies and early stage startups. Previous roles include CEO of StarCore, 13 years with Motorola in VP positions (sales, marketing and operations) in four countries, having started his career with Texas Instruments. He has lectured on business strategy at the University of Texas and is an active board member of the SOI Consortium and Smoothstone, Inc.
Mike Muller was one of the founders of ARM. Before joining the Group, he was responsible for hardware strategy and the development of portable products at Acorn Computers. He was previously at Orbis Computers. At ARM he was VP, Marketing from 1992 to 1996 and EVP, Business Development until October 2000 when he was appointed Chief Technology Officer. In October 2001, he was appointed to the Board.
Antonio J. Viana was appointed executive vice president of commercial and global development in January 2013. He was previously executive vice president of worldwide sales. Antonio originally joined ARM in 1999 and oversaw the development systems business in North America. Within ARM, Antonio has been global director of the ARM foundry program and vice president of North American sales. Antonio has worked with Hughes Aircraft, Silicon Graphics, Encore Industries and was senior vice president of worldwide sales at Tensilica Inc.
Pete was appointed executive vice president and general manager of the media processing division in January 2013. He is responsible for leading ARM’s graphics, video and GPU computing solutions. Pete joined ARM in 2008 and has held vice president positions within the processor and media processing divisions. Prior to ARM, Pete ran corporate engineering for Wolfson Microelectronic, he was also general manager for processors at ARC International and a group director for Cadence Design Systems.
Tom Cronk was appointed executive vice president and general manager of the processor division in January 2013. Tom joined ARM in 1998 and has held senior positions in sales and marketing, corporate business development (mergers and acquisitions) and divisional general management.
Dipesh was appointed executive vice president and general manager of the Physical IP Division in January 2013. Dipesh joined ARM in 1997 and has held senior management positions working primarily in System on Chip (SoC) related activities. Dipesh was previously the vice president of Technology and was responsible for leading all aspects of Physical IP roadmap activities within the division.
Jennifer Duvalier joined ARM as Executive Vice President, People in September 2013. Prior to joining ARM, she was Group People & Culture Director for 6 years at UBM plc, the global events-led marketing and communications services business, and was previously Group HR Director for an international media and marketing services group. Her earlier career was in management consultancy and banking.[4]

Board of Directors

John Buchanan joined the Board as Chairman on 3 May 2012. He has broad international experience gained in large and complex businesses. He has experience and knowledge of the international investor community and has held various leadership roles in strategic, financial, operational and marketing positions, including executive experience in different countries. He is a former Chief Financial Officer of BP plc and a former Deputy Chairman and senior independent director of Vodafone Group plc.

Andy Green joined the Board in February 2011. He was CEO of Logica plc from 2008 to 2012. He is a former CEO of BT Global Services and a former CEO of Group Strategy and Operations at BT plc and was CEO of BT Openworld. He is Chair of e-Skills UK (the UK Sector Skills Council for Business and Information Technology), is on the Board and the President’s Committee of the CBI and is a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute.
Larry Hirst joined the Board in January 2011. He is the former Chairman of IBM Europe, Middle East and Africa. He retired from IBM in 2010 having previously held a wide range of senior positions since joining the company in 1977. He currently chairs the Imperial College Digital Cities Exchange. He is also an Ambassador to Monitise plc and on the International Advisory Board for British Airways. Former roles include being a UK Business Ambassador, a Commissioner for the Commission for Employment and Skills and Chair of e-skills UK (the UK Sector Skills Council for Business and Information Technology). He was awarded a CBE in 2006.
Eric Meurice joined the board on 1 July 2013. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of ASML Holding NV (a leading provider of manufacturing equipment and technology to the semiconductor industry) until 30 June 2013 and will remain as their Chairman until 31 March 2014. Prior to joining ASML, he was Executive Vice President of Thomson Television Worldwide, where he completed the merger of his division with TCL Corporation, a leading Chinese consumer electronics company. Before 2001, he served as head of Dell Computers’ Western, Eastern Europe and EMEA emerging market businesses. He also gained extensive technology experience in the semiconductor industry between 1984 and 1994, first at Intel, in the micro-controller group, and then at ITT Semiconductors Group, a leader then in digital video and audio DSP integrated circuits. He has a Master's degree in mechanics and energy generation (1979) at the Ecole Centrale de Paris, a Master's degree in Economics (1979) from la Sorbonne University, Paris and an MBA (1984) from Stanford University, California.
Kathleen O’Donovan joined the Board in December 2006. Previously she was a non-executive director and Chairman of the Audit Committees of the Court of the Bank of England, Great Portland Estates plc, EMI Group plc and Prudential plc and a non-executive director of O2 plc. Prior to that, she was Chief Financial Officer of BTR plc and Invensys plc and before that she was a Partner at Ernst & Young.
Janice Roberts joined the Board in January 2011. She has been a Managing Director at Mayfield Fund since 2000, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm with approximately $3 billion under management, where she focuses on the mobile, wireless, communications and consumer technology industries. Prior to that, she held various executive positions at 3Com Corporation including President Palm Computing, President 3Com Ventures and Senior Vice President, Business Development and Global Marketing. She is a director of several private technology companies in the US.
Philip Rowley joined the Board in January 2005. He was Chairman and CEO of AOL Europe, the internet services and web brands provider until February 2007. He is a qualified chartered accountant and was Group Finance Director of Kingfisher plc from 1998 to 2000 and Deputy CEO and CFO of the General Merchandise Division until 2001. Prior to that, his roles included EVP, Chief Financial Officer of EMI Music Worldwide. He recently resigned as Chairman of HMV Group plc.[5]
