Peter Dowd is the Labour Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Bootle. [1]
Dowd replaced Joe Benton, the Labour MP who Bootle since 1990, when he retired in 2015. [2] Dowd went on to retain the seat with a majority of 28,704 in the May 2015 general election. [1]

Dowd previously worked in the Merseyside area in health and social care as a qualified social worker, who has a 'particular interest in education, children's social care and all age mental health services'. [3]
He also served as a member of the Merseyside county council from 1981 until 1986 and then joined Sefton council in 1991 becoming leader of Sefton's Labour Group in 2008. [3]
