The European Policy Forum describes itself as an independent international research institute. Its independence is compromised, however, by their consistent support of competition and the free-market in the policy arena. One of its members Sir Ian Byatt is an outspoken advocate of market principles, whilst its Director, Frank Vibert wrote a book in 2007, The Rise of the Unelected, which endorses the contemporary turn towards unaccountable, unelected governance of institutions like utilities and other areas that affect people: but within which they have no say.
