Peter Barron was the editor of Newsnight, the principal current affairs and news evening programme on BBC2 until 2008 when he left to join internet giant Google as its UK communications chief.
In January 2011 Barron was appointed Google's director of external relations Europe, Middle East and Africa. [1]

On 26 August 2007, Barron voiced his opposition to the airing of Planet Relief, a BBC programme that would highlight the danger of climate change. Barron states:
