Private Eye reveals:
- Another front-runner is John Prescott's son David, a London-based PR wallah who only two months ago dismissed speculation that he might run as "press prattle". In his application leaked to the Hull Daily Mail on new year's day, Prezz junior vowed to "strengthen our communities" and "reconnect with the voters", which rather begs the question of what his dad was doing during his decade as deputy PM.
David Prescott also boasts of his "detailed understanding of how government works". Might this refer to the Commons press pass his dad gave him in 2006? Or the £11m which his PR firm Geronimo won in contracts from the Department of Education in recent years? One of the contracts fittingly enough, was to publicise a "Dads and Sons" campaign to get fathers more involved in their sons' education.[1]
