Harry Carr was an MI6 officer.

Early life

Carr was born in Arkhangelsk in 1899 where his father managed a sawmill. He was educated at Haileybury.[1]

Army service

After joining the Army, Carr was sent to northern Russia as an interpreter in 1919.[1]

Secret service

He was demobilised later the same year, and was given a temporary post working for MI(1c) in Helsinki. He was subsequently appointed an Assistant Passport Control Officer, a cover position for work in the intelligence services that would become MI6.[1]

In 1928, Carr replaced Ernest Boyce as head of the MI6 Helsinki Station. Initially a temporary appointment, he would retain the appointment until 1941.[1]

Car was recalled to Britain in May 1945, and was appointed Controller, Northern Area in September 1945.[2]
