Nuclear activities

According to its website Burges Salmon:

Has a leading national reputation and a recognised international presence in the nuclear legal market. Chambers UK 2013 describes us as having "a breadth and depth of knowledge of nuclear matters that few can match."
Our team of specialist nuclear lawyers have an unrivalled and proven track record in the four broad areas of our practice
  • Decommissioning and Operational
  • Waste
  • New Build
  • International Regulatory and Governmental.
We take pride in developing long-term relationships with clients and gaining a thorough understanding of their needs, objectives and operating environments. This ensures our support and advice is pro-active, reducing our clients' exposure to both legal and commercial risk.
We have an expansive portfolio of nuclear clients (public and private sector) throughout the nuclear/fuel lifecycle, including the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Government and Regulators, energy companies, site licence companies, contractors (all tiers) and other companies and organisations in a diverse range of sectors including defence, healthcare, higher education and transport.
Our lawyers are actively involved in the industry's main associations and fora both in the UK and abroad, including the Nuclear Institute and the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA). Gareth Davies is vice-chair of the influential NIA Decommissioning and Radio-active Waste Working Group.
Head of Nuclear, Ian Salter, is co-chair of the NIA's Legal Affairs Working Group and is leading its Liability Sub-Group on the industry response to the DECC Public Consultation on Changes to the Paris and Brussels Convention on Third Party Liability. Ian has been an active member of the International Nuclear Lawyers Association since 1999.
As members of the World Nuclear Association Burges Salmon established and provided the first chair to its Task Force on Nuclear Liability.
There are very few texts on international nuclear law. In February 2011 the Burges Salmon Guide to Nuclear Law was published. In 2012 members of the team contributed to the nuclear publication 'Infrastructure and methodologies for the justification of nuclear power programmes'. [1]
