- 15 - Rosemary Nelson, a solicitor from Lurgan, Co Armagh, is killed by a car bomb outside her home. The murder was claimed by the Red Hand Defenders. Chief Constable of Kent, David Philips is appointed to oversee the RUC investigation.[1]
- 24 - There are renewed calls for an independent murder investigation after reports that the Independent Police Complaints Commission detailed a “catalogue” of complaints about how the RUC handled an investigation into allegations of police death threats against Nelson.[1]
- 28Deputy Chief Constable of Norfolk Constabulary Colin Port replaces David Philips as head of the Nelson investigation. He assembles his own team but says he will need RUC expertise.[1]
