David Macfarlane is an (MRes) investigative social researcher with a penchant for public interest orientated research. He has academic experience in investigative research and also in qualitative and quantitative research methods to Masters level recognised by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
During his undergraduate research David assessed the role of the tabloid media and populist islamophobic and racist sentiment. In his Postgraduate research David aimed to contribute to our understanding of the role of information and propaganda in the formation of political and industrial relations in Britain with a particular focus on the inter war period.
Coming from a department which has pioneered a course in Investigative Social Research and prides itself in its commitment to public interest research, David continues to look for opportunities to use his acquired research skills at a grass-roots level.
His continued commitment to investigative social research is fuelled by a genuine desire to expose the conflicts of interest and corruption which are eroding and trampling the genuine and social democratic aspirations within the EU and its members. And to contribute to the building and strengthening of our local and wider communities by promoting social justice and making private and public institutions more, transparent, democratic, and accountable. Only a high standard of public interest orientated investigative research can help to achieve this.
