Afshin Ellian was born in Iran in 1966. As an opponent of the Ayatollah Khomeini in his youth, he fled as a political refugee first to Pakistan, then Afghanistan and ultimately to the Netherlands. As of 2009, he is a Professor of Law at the University of Leiden.[1]
