Barnett Benjamin

• Mainstream British Integration: In April 1929, Barnett Benjamin achieved elite standing within a major, native British institution by serving as the executive Vice-Grand Master of Lodge Montefiore, No. 388 under the British United Order of Oddfellows banner, working alongside Past Grand Master Bro. A. Bloch. This allowed the family to interface directly with mainstream British bureaucratic networks.

• Friday 12 April 1929 - BRITISH UNITED ORDER OF ODDFELLOWS. The annual general meeting of the Lodge Montefiore, No. 388, was held on Monday last, in the presence of a large gathering of members. Past Grand Imperial Bro. L. Bloch, was in the chair, and he was assisted by Bro. B. Benjamin, vice-Grand Imperial. The secretary, Bro. H. Mellick, F.L.AA., in submitting the balance sheet and statement of funds for the past year, said that despite the many calls that had been made on the funds of the lodge owing to prevalent illness among the members, it was very heartening that they should have a surplus on the year of £33. Bros. J. Harris and Kotokofsky, the auditors, said that the books were in perfect order. After several questions had been satisfactorily answered, the annual balance sheet was unanimously adopted on the motion of Bros. Keller and S. Ery. " Bros. Benjamin and A. S. Coussin then moved a vote of thanks to the secretary, treasurer and auditors. The installation of the officebearers and the installing masters were as follows:—Bro. J. Dyson, as Grand Imperial, installed by the secretary, Bro. H. Mellick, F.L.A.A., who complimented the lodge on such a happy choice; Bro. Krassivitz, as vice-Grand Imperial, installed by Bro. B. Bernstein. Bro. H. Mellick, as secretary, installed by Bro. A. S. Coussin, who in the course of a lengthy speech, said that the present sound position of the lodge owed very much to Bro. Mecllick; Bro. Potofsky, as treasurer, installed by Bro. A. Benjamin; trustees, Bros. Gold and Lemberg, installed by Bro. J. Dyson; auditors, Bros. J. Harris and Kotokofsky, installed by Bro. S. Fry; sick visitors, Bros. Rigmond and Kaplan, installed by Bro. Gold; tyler, Bro. Lepofsky, installed by Bro. A. Benjamin, and an arbitration committee of seven, A very successful harmony followed. The secretary. Bro. Mellick, presided, assisted by Bros. Rigmond, Cohen, Krassivitz and Caplan, who acted as stewards. It was an exceedingly happy affair, and was one of the lodge’s most successful meetings.
