==Political career==
Jopling was an MP for over 30 years, serving for the constituency of Westmorland from 1964-83 and then Westmorland & Lonsdale from 1983-97. 

Alongside this he worked at the [[HM Treasury]] in the early 1970s, firstly as assistant whip and then as Lord commissioner. After this, Jopling worked as shadow minister for agriculture, fisheries and food before becoming a minister of state. <ref name= "about"/>
