==Aims==

==History==
The centre was founded in the late 1970s by Professor Sir [[Harry Hinsley]], the official historian of British Intelligence in the Second World War, and Professor [[Clive Parry]]. The [[Ministry of Defence]] was an early supporting of the centre, funding two lectureships, first held by [[Corelli Barnett]] and [[Philip Towle]], for a ten-year period.<ref name"CIS">[http://www.polis.cam.ac.uk/cis/ Centre of International Studies], University of Cambridge, accessed 11 April 2013.</ref>

In January 2009, the Centre of International Studies merged with the Department of Politics to form the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS).
