The [[Academic Study Group]] (Charity No 801772) was an anti BDS charity registered 24 July 1989 and ceased to exist on 1 May 2020.  The charity was resurrected on 28 August 2020 with a new charity number (1191067) and it is now called [[Academic Study Group on Israel and the Middle East]].<ref>Register of Charities [https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-search/-/charity-details/5161064/governance Governance]. According to its website in 2001: 

:The Academic Study Group was established in 1977 in order to forge closer links between political and social scientists in Britain, and their counterparts in the higher education sector in Israel. In its infancy A.S.G. concentrated almost exclusively on analysing developments in the newly-reborn State of Israel and conflicts raging in the Middle East. Latterly A.S.G. has radically revised and enlarged its terms of reference. 

The ASG was closely associated and shared a website with the [[Friends of Israel Educational Foundation]], a Charity (No. 1095303) and company (No. 04392462) incorporated on 12 Mar 2002 as a copmany, registered as a charity on 9 January 2003 and dissolved on 23 July 2019. <ref name="ASG2001">ASG [https://web.archive.org/web/20010304171637/http://www.foi-asg.org/ Background on the ASG]. ==Against BDS==
In spring 2018 the charity added a statement that it was oppsed to the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions campaign launched by Palestinian civil society in 2005. It stated:
:By definition as a Charity ASG presses no political line and eschews any form of propagandising. The only issue on which ASG has firm policy is opposition to BDS.
