Union pour un Mouvement Populaire
(Redirected from Union for a Popular Movement)
Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (Union for a Popular Movement) was a major right-wing French political party founded on 17 November 2002 by the former French president Jacques Chirac as a merger of several right wing parties supporting him.
In 2007 UMP leader Nicolas Sarkozy was elected president of France, until Francois Hollande defeated him in a run-off in 2012.
In May 2015 the party was renamed and succeeded by the Republicans (Les Républicains).
