Miroslav Ouzký, MEP

Miroslav Ouzký (born 18 August 1958, Chlumec nad Cidlinou, Czech Republic) is an MEP for Czech Republic from the Civic Democratic Party (Občanská demokratická strana; ODS), and a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group in the European Parliament.

Porsche incident

In early September 2012, Miroslav Ouzký, in charge of shepherding a proposal to reduce vehicle noise through the European Parliament, sent a proposal for a compromise amendment to other MEPs on the environment committee which had "Gerhard, Hans-Martin, Porsche AG" written in the 'author' field. The document suggests weakening the stricter noise limits proposed by the Commission, as reported by European Voice's Dave Keating. When green transport group Transport & Environment (T&E) discovered this, they sent out a press release saying the proposed compromise has actually been authored by Porsche in order to benefit makers of larger, louder cars. Committee chairman Matthias Groote stated that the issue might be referred to the parliament's legal service given the nature of the accusation.

On 19 September 2012, Ouzký held a press conference at the European Parliament to respond to the allegations. He insisted that he simply used the document from Porsche as a template, and later inputted his own figures onto it. He distributed a copy of what he says was the original document created by Porsche, which has different figures from what he distributed to MEPs.

Ouzký never agreed to meet with T&E, despite multiple requests. A T&E spokesman said, "It's at the very least weird that he produces the [original document from Porsche] just on paper and just now, instead of having given electronic proof on the differences between his compromise amendment and the Porsche's text when journalists had asked him last week."
