Background

The Energy Retail Association (ERA) was an industry lobby group set up in 2003 to represent the major electricity and gas suppliers in the domestic market in Great Britain.

In April 2012, it merged with the Association of Electricity Producers and UK Business Council for Sustainable Energy to become Energy UK.[1]

The ERA said it "works closely with government, NGOs, charities and other organisations in England, Scotland and Wales to ensure a coordinated approach to dealing with the key issues affecting our industry and the British consumer".[2]

Members

All the main energy suppliers, operating in the residential market at the time, were members: British Gas, EDF Energy, RWE npower, E.ON, Scottish Power, and Scottish and Southern Energy.[2]

People

The ERA's Chief Executive was Dr Garry Felgate, who was previously a Director of the Carbon Trust as well as occupying senior roles with AEA Technology, KPMG and A.T. Kearney. He answered to a Board of directors made up of the Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors of the six member companies.[2][3]
