Tim Waterstone

Tim Waterstone, former Chair of the HMV Media Group (he resigned in March 2001), gave more than £5,000 to the Labour Party in 1997 and £12,000 in May 2001.

He was the founder of the Waterstone's bookshop chain, which he sold to WHSmith in 1991 for £47 million. In February 1998 he bought it back, in partnership with the EMI group, to be part of the HMV Media Group which includes 271 HMV shops, 78 Dillons shops, Waterstone's Daisy & Tom children's shops and the 99 Waterstones shops. Alan Giles, Chief Executive of the HMV Media Group is also a Non-Executive Director of Somerfield.

He was one of the 58 business leaders who wrote to the Times in May 2001 in support of the Labour Party.
