Images and photos

 1. In the left hand column under the "Toolbox" heading is the "Upload file" link. Click on this. This will take you to http://www.Powerbase.info/index.php?title=Special:Upload
 2. Before uploading an image or a pdf there are a couple of points to check. If you think an image is copyright free, such as from a company's own or government website, check in the File Info section for any notes on copyright. For Adobe Acrobat files, it is worth checking to see if the security settings on the file are set to standard so that the document can be printed and copied but not modified. This may help avoid arguments over the document content later.
 3. In the filename bar find the file on your hard drive. Click on it.
 4. In the "Summary" space add a brief explanatory note on the origin of the image or document. For example, if the photo is from a government website, post the url into your note. If it is a document, a brief explanation on where it came from is worthwhile. Add relevant credit details for photographers or Flickr accounts.
 5. After you are sure the image/pdf is copyright free, check the box to the statement "I affirm that the copyright holder of this file agrees to license it under the terms of the Powerbase copyright." If you don't check this box, you won't be allowed to upload the file.
 6. Click on "Upload file"
 7. If your file is under the 100k threshold and the name doesn't clash with an existing file, it will be uploaded and the link to it appear on the "Recent Changes" page: http://www.Powerbase.info/index.php?title=Special:Recentchanges
 8. If your file is over 100k or uses an existing file name, after a little while you will be prompted (the duration depends on the original file size) whether you want to upload anyway. The options you will have are:
 • "Save File" - "Ignore warning and save file anyway"; and
 • "Re-Upload" - "Return to the upload form".

How to add an image to fill a blank image link

 1. Go to the article where you wish to add an image. Find the red link (indicating a blank image link) on the page at the spot where the image will go (here's an example: "Image:Gregwarren.jpg"). Make note of the exact name of the image file (in this case, Gregwarren.jpg).
 2. Find an image that you wish to eventually upload onto the site and save it to your computer. Be sure to give the image the same name as that of the red link on the Powerbase page. This is important.
 3. Go back to the Powerbase article where you wish to add the image.
 4. Click the red link. This will take you to the "Upload file" page. Click browse and locate the image file that you saved to the computer.
 5. Write a brief summary in the "Summary" box describing your actions.
 6. Click "Upload file."
 7. The image should now appear on the page where the red link previously did.

Screengrabs

 1. Screengrab the web page you want to record by pressing the Print Screen button on your keyboard. You may want to use the full screen display first.
 2. Open an image programme e.g. Paint, and paste the image (Ctrl-V).
 3. Save the image as a jpg or other image file.
 4. Upload the file onto Powerbase in the normal fashion: http://www.Powerbase.info/index.php/Special:Upload
 5. Code the image to appear in the text using the following format:
created (Time and Date)

Your image should appear automatically on your page.

Making images and photos appear smaller and specifying position on page

The standard format is:

You can specify the number of pixels that the image occupies on the page and place it on the right side of the page by coding the image like this:

250px means 250 pixels, but you might choose another figure, such as 400px, if you want the image to be larger than this. "right" specifies that the image is on the right, but you can substitute "left" or "center" if preferred.

Video clips

You can include a video on a Powerbase page by streaming it from the website on which it is posted. Note that the video will only be viewable as long as it remains at the url (web address) that you are citing.

Youtube

You can see examples of videos streamed from Youtube at http://www.Powerbase.info/index.php/John_Stockwell

Note the coding of the first video included on this page and edit it according to the video that you post:

To add caption: simply add as shown in above code (you will need to replace the caption given here with your own caption)
To add Youtube ID Code: Replace the identification code URL shown above https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9VxnCBD9W4- with the URL identification code of your chosen video. To work out this code, look at the Youtube url where the video is viewable. For the example used above, the url is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9VxnCBD9W4

Insert the coding into your Powerbase article in the appropriate section. You can adjust the video size by changing the number eg '450' above to a smaller or greater number of pixels. You can 'center' (note US spelling) or use right or left alignment too.

Google videos

All other video formats can be posted too. Here is the Google video format:

<video type="googlevideo" id="1234abc"/>

Where id= is the Google video id (from the url).
