John Moore (The Rt Hon. the Lord Moore of Lower Marsh) is a former member of the UK parliament for Croydon Central, and a former member of Margaret Thatcher's cabinet.

On 3 July 1992 he was made a Conservative peer in the House of Lords.

Career

Moore was a MP for Croydon Central between 1974 and 1992. During his time in parliament he held the roles of vice-chairman of the Conservative Party (1975 to 1979), Parliamentary under-secretary to the Department of Energy (1979 to 1983), Economic Secretary to HM Treasury (1983) and Financial Secretary to HM Treasury (1983 to 1986). In 1987 he joined Margaret Thatcher's cabinet as Secretary of State for Health and Social Security (1987-1988) and Secretary of State for Social Security (1988-1989).[1]
