Jerry Petherick

Jerry Petherick is a former prison service manager who has worked in senior positions at a variety of private companies running prisons and immigration detention centres across the UK.[1] He was interviewed at a Home Affairs Select Committee session on 24 June 2014 in which he said he had over 32 years experience in custodial institutions.[2]

Prison service

Petherick was governor of two prisons before becoming an area manager for Her Majesty's prison service in the south west from 2000 to July 2005. He was "Line manager of the HM Prisons in the South West prison service area" and he was "responsible for all aspects (operational, budgets, HR etc) for those establishments' delivery." During his time in the prison service he was a control and restraint commander and head of the security group with responsibility for control and restraint training.

Global Solutions Ltd.

He was Director of Operations for Global Solutions Ltd. (GSL) from July 2005 to July 2008. In this role he was "responsible for all aspects of delivery within the Prisons and Immigration Removal Centres operated by GSL (UK) Ltd prior to the purchase of that company by G4S."

G4S

He became a Managing Director of G4S' custodial and detention services in the UK from July 2008. In this role he is "responsible/accountable for all aspects of the delivery of the 6 Prisons and 3 Immigration Removal Centres currently operated by G4S in England and Wales" i.e. Brook House IRC, Tinsley House IRC and Cedars PDA. The prisons include HMP Birmingham, of which Petherick was "responsible for the mobilisation of that contract and have ongoing responsibility for it."
