James Clappison

James Clappison was the Conservative Party MP for Hertsmere from 1992 to 2015.

In July 2014 he announced he would not be standing in 2015 general election.[1] He was replaced by Oliver Dowden, former chief of staff to prime minister David Cameron, who won the seat by 18,461 votes.[2]


His parliamentary posts have included: Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department of Environment) 1995-97, Shadow Spokesperson (Home Affairs) 1997-99, Shadow Spokesperson (Education) 1999-00, Shadow Spokesperson (Treasury) 2000-01, Shadow Spokesperson (Work and Pensions) 2001-02, Shadow Spokesperson (Treasury) 2002-03, Shadow Spokesperson (Work and Pensions) 2007-10[3]
