Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine

The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) is UK's professional body, learned society and registered charity, for physicists and engineers in the field of medicine. The institute was founded in 1995 as a hybrid of the Hospital Physicists’ Association (1943), the Hospital Physics Technicians' Association (1952) and the Biological Engineering Society (1960) under the name, the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine and Biology (IPEMB). It changed its name to IPEM in 1997.
