The Weizmann Institute of Science is an institution of higher education in Rehovot, Israel.

History

The Institute, originally called the Daniel Sieff Research Institute was founded in 1934 by Chaim Weizmann an academic chemist formerly at Manchester University and a leading Zionist activist. It was renamed the Weizmann Institute of Science in his honor on November 2, 1949 after he became the first President of the newly created Israeli state.
