Vernon Ellis

Vernon Ellis is the chair of the British Council.[1]

Education

Ellis graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford, with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.[2]

Accenture

Ellis joined Accenture in 1969. In 1989 he became Managing Partner for Europe, Middle East, Africa and India.[3] From 2001 to the end of 2007 he was the firm's International Chairman. He also led the firm’s participation in the World Economic Forum and was the UK private sector representative at the G8 Digital Opportunities Task Force. At the beginning of 2008 he became Senior Adviser at Accenture.[4]

Other activities

Ellis has been Chairman of the Board of the Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum, and a member of Advisory Councils or Boards for the Centre for European Reform, IMD, INSEAD, and the Said Business School, University of Oxford. He was Deputy Chairman of the Mayor of Seoul's International Business Advisory Council from 2004-2006. He was on the Boards of Enablis and WorldLinks.[5] As of 2005 he was global director of Enablis, a Canadian-based not-for-profit organisation that supports entrepreneurs in the developing world,[6] and is a director of Martin Randall Travel.[7]

After the Enron affair Accenture distanced itself from Arthur Anderson (now known as Andersen) arguing they had operated as “separate and independent companies since 1989, linked only by a contractual relationship until August 2000, when an arbitrator with the International Chamber of Commerce ruled that Accenture could sever its contractual ties to Arthur Andersen."[8]

Accenture is a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. Other directors include Mark Moody-Stuart of Shell Anglo American and HSBC.

Ellis is a member of the Centre for European Reform. He is also Chairman of ENO, the Classical Opera Company and the Sacconi Trust, and is a trustee of the Royal College of Music, the Kathleen Ferrier Awards and the Florestan Trust. He is international chairman of Mission, Models and Money.[9] His wife is a trustee of British Youth Opera.
