Stephen Perry is the Managing Director of SLP Investments and London Export Ltd. London Export Ltd is involved in providing finance and advice to companies trading with China. SLP Investments is a property management company. London Export Ltd gave more than £5,000 to the Labour Party in 1997. SLP Investments gave more than £5,000 in both 1998 and 2000, and £25,000 on 14 May 1999.

Stephen Perry is also Chairman of Millenium Tableware, Vice President of the China-British Business Council and Chairman of the 48 Group Club.

He is a member of the Labour Finance and Industry Group (LFIG), a pro-business New Labour think-tank. He is Chair of the LFIG's China Study Group, which recommended that Stephen Byers should set up a DTI taskforce to develop business with China. The LFIG organised the conference which formed the basis of the Labour Party's PFI policy before the 1997 election and were instrumental in the establishment of the Government post of Minister for Small Business.
