Ruth Porter is special adviser to Elizabeth Truss the MP for South West Norfolk and Secretary of State for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. When Truss appointed Porter in 2014 it was seen to be a good move as Porter has a good 'grasp of handling the media' having had more than a decade of experience working in public policy with leading think tanks in the UK. [1]

Prior to this role, Porter worked as the communications director at the Institute of Economic Affairs. Amongst other roles, she co-authored a series of reports on education that won the Innovative Projects category of the Sir Antony Fisher International Memorial Awards, as well as editing the book Pursuing Social Justice in New Zealand, which was launched by New Zealand's Governor-General. [2]

Porter currently also works for Policy Exchange as head of economics & social policy. [2] Alongside this, Porter is also a regular commentator in the media, taking part in programmes such as Radio 5's Paper Review and BBC 2's Newsnight. She is also an Advisor to Million Jobs, a campaign which focuses on helping more young people find work. [2]
